Safety First! Part of first aid, I think, is first trying to prevent any mishaps and problems. So today I want to share some tips for being safe while grilling.
Gas Grills:
Hoses: Be sure to check the hoses for cracks, leaks, etc. Also make sure the hose doesn't have any sharp bends (like a water hose the sharp bend prevents the water to continue)
Make sure the hoses aren't near hot surfaces--that they don't directly touch hot surfaces or come in contact with hot foods and grease.
Tanks: Do NOT use propane gas indoors, only use outdoors. The propane tanks should always be kept in an upright position, both while in use and during storage. Propane tanks should NOT be stored or used indoors, in cars or trunks; but should be stored away from both the grill when not in use and from living areas. Inspect the tank for leaks, punctures, etc.
General: don't use flammable liquids or other flammable items when grilling.
Charcoal Grills:
Charcoal: NEVER burn charcoal indoors--including inside houses, garages, tents, vehicles, etc! It releases carbon monoxide, which is toxic and deadly when it can accumulate in inclosed areas, it is colorless and odorless.
Always burn charcoal outdoors.
Store charcoal outdoors
General: again don't use or keep flammable items nearby when grilling
These are pretty basic and generic safety tips. It is good to be reminded periodically though, because unfortunately some people don't take these precautions seriously, or think that simply opening a window is all that is needed when the precautions and safety warnings found on grills and on the fuel they use are literally that--warnings, not just suggestions.
